St Honore Pastry

St Honore pastries in various scales (1:3, 1:4, 1:6, 1:12)
all made in polymer clay.

base diameter measurements
1:3 - 3.2cm
1:4 - 2.4cm
1:6 - 1.6cm
1:12 - 0.8cm

man, i think st honore pastries have got to be one of the prettiest pastries around.

as with macarons, i'd never heard of, seen, tasted these before. i think i might like it, since i like choux pastries.

with some of my older 1:3 works for scale. i really ought to be listing stuff, but right now i'm enjoying my 'holidays' XD

happy new year everyone! <3

1:12 rustic breads

slightly overexposed, but i likes it!

i'm currently working on some prototypes, as stated in an earlier post (the unpainted breads). finally got round to painting them now that they're fully dried. i used acrylic paints, mixed up the colours as i went along since i don't really know what colours to use. i like this range, but when i showed them to my brother, he said they're too light. gee and i thought they were pretty dark already!

anyway. took the opportunity to take some more shots since there was beautiful light this afternoon after the rain. i welcome all and any constructive criticism, i'm really fearful of painting, so part of why this took so long was the procrastinating of picking up the brush!!! XD

more pics.

that's a lot of carbs. well, not really, but i do so miss eating breads T_T

baguettes and stuff? i painted them 3 different hues, but i guess due to the light everything looks...lighter. sheesh.

i like the ones at the bottom left.

these were the ones i kinda majorly messed up after i tried baking them to speed up the drying process. haw haw haw. ANYWAY.

and the longest bread here, part of the lighter coloured range which is sorta what we see more frequently around singapore. it's a local adaptation of the french loaf, affectionately known in hokkien as "Jiam Tao Loti" (pointy head bread), but i grew up calling it 'roti pranchis' which i do not know what it translates into. funniest version i've heard was "neh neh pok" bread which is a ....children's term for "breasts" XD

i think this pic is a little too 'cold' (too much blue) and will probably have to edit it but i like it still for ....what it is. whatever it is. heh :-/

my fave shot of all. this was the most fun photoshoot i've had in a while, probably because i liked the light today (thank you Sun!) and cos i've finally gotten a whole BATCH of stuff completed instead of my usual itty bitty one-off pieces. LOOK SANS!!! I TRIED TO MAKE A SCENE!!! XD

strawberry cakes & more macarons

strawberry cakes

strawberry cakes 2

strawberry cakes 3
sooo....

like some of you probably know i have been doing a few larger scaled commissions, and the bulk of it comes from Den of Angels (DoA), a ball-jointed doll forum. if you're a member and have at least 40 posts, you can view my marketplace and commission threads:

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345069
http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350187

these are my latest commissions, in 1:4 scale.^ ^

macarons too

macarons side by side
the ever popular macarons. i honestly honestly HONESTLY considered never ever EVER making these again. not only are they kind of hellish to make in larger scales (i don't use molds), the mixing of the colours are TORTURE on my wrists/hands. but beggars can't be choosers, and i really do need the $. so i guess i'll have to suck it up and keep making these for as long as people want 'em. =3=

old vs new
the ones on top are for my customer. my first attempt at this commission is pictured below. ok, so why did i torture myself twice? or, 12 times? because after making the first batch, i realised that it was slightly blockish, and i wasn't quite satisfied with the colours. my customer requested the fillings to be lighter coloured, almost close to white, but can you see the fillings for the 4 lighter colours look...well, WHITE! GAH!

i couldn't. i just couldn't let it go. i thought, heck. i'll sleep on it and let my customer decide if she likes it. BUT I COULDN'T LET IT GO. AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!! so i made another batch.  btw. each  batch took me almost 4 hrs to complete. no, i wasn't multi-tasking or anything, i just REALLY DO WORK THAT SLOWLY. i think cos i had to mix up the colours, condition the clay, and GET THE FRIGGING @#$)*@#&$*#& DUST out of the clay AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, shape, bake, cool, mix up filling colours, rebake, cool etc....

maybe i should turn the room into a clean room, like those in silicone wafer factories or summat XD might be better for my allergies too HA!

sprinkles
aaand, of course there will always be waste clay. this batch of sprinkles i made from the first 'failed' batch of macarons. haven't yet rolled out the rest of the oddly coloured clay. thought of making jellybeans, but i really should rest my hands. they ache to the point of numbness now, which is something new.

what else has been happening. hrm. well you can go to my flickr and view some pics of some beautiful dolls. had an outing last saturday, 'twas great fun, which is driving me to try and work harder on earning $ so i can get my own.

i have found myself tiring out increasingly easily these past weeks. the thirst simply cannot be slaked (literal thirst) and the tests tomorrow .....well, i get the feeling the results aren't gonna be good. but i guess being sickly since childhood does somewhat numb one into a "ah well" or "ARRGHGHG I HATE THE WORLD" state. right now i think i'm smack in the middle of both. but i have more stuff i'm working on (personal mini projects) and am trying hard to get out of a 'one-trick pony' etsy-store-limbo.

oh and btw, just a reminder, the blog is now hosted on http://snowfern-clover.blogspot.com . ok. time for bed.

g'nite.

An unexpected date and trade!

today's loot

sooo, today i unexpectedly traded for some items. i'd picked up my parcel from the post office, i'd previously purchased some items from HeyYoYo, and they're SOOO CUTE! well packaged too ^ ^ Thanks Amanda!

you can see the reserved listing in order to identify which items i got, and how much i paid for 'em here:

http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=23980937

she's really friendly, and came highly recommended by Asuka!

the flowers you see are from Sans of The Dollhouse Diaries, part of a secret giveaway! woohoo~! there are a few more varieties, but i rushed to take pics so... :X see, comment spamming -sometimes- pays off. HA!

the flower pots and disposable 'styrafoam' lunchboxes are from Madam Ang *secret smile* i won't tell you what i paid for 'em ;) BWA HA HA *winks at Asuka*

the container i used for the shelf, and the acrylic little perch i have the 1:12 items on are from Muji. i simply couldn't resist! i have so many plans for them!

anyhow, i made this impromptu trip down to town because i hurt my hand this morning whilst working the frosting for the commission :( i got a blister on my middle finger (not from flipping anyone the birdie, i'm a nice girl. HAHHAHAHA don't choke), and my old thumb injury acted up again, each time i try to use it a jolt of pain shoots up my hand. and i was sooo moody and in so much pain, when i saw Asuka online, i invited her to join me on an impromptu shopping trip so that i wouldn't hurt myself further. i have a tendency when i work to not realise when i'm hurt, and aggravate my injury whilst i cater to my compulsions. taking myself away from the work environment usually helps.

well. mid-trip, i realised the reason for my moodiness :X LOL. ANYWAY.

sorry if i'm not really replying comments and stuff, i'm quickly realising i'm all over the place, in my head, and on the net. spreading myself a little too thin (and there's loads to go around har har), so to speak. i guess what's most important is to sort out the requests, fulfill the orders, and...STOP CHATTING ONLINE! aughghghghghg

that'll start tomorrow. g'nite :D

(oh and the colourful pillbox is just for Asuka's reference, i used it to contain my beads from aeons ago)

my cousin's new camera

cousin visited today with aunt, and he'd brought his new DSLR, alas, he hadn't purchased a macro lens as yet and learned rather quickly that it's hard to take pics of my minis without one XD well, when he does, i'm sure i'll have FANTASTIC pics, meanwhile, here are some rather good ones too ;)

Yotsuba has been featured in quite a number of my pictures, and i hope you enjoy these as much as i did posing her ^ ^

Rock paper scissors!
"Jan-ken-po !"
"HEY! stop that!"
"Let's do some gardening ^ ^ "

trying to get her to stop moving is...hard....:P

"Usagi love"
(usagi is japanese for rabbit)
GUNDAM!
(i purchased a whole keroro gunsou kit specifically for this set XD)
"Hey Yotsuba! Look at the nice cameraman!"
mm just like those oleskool studio portraits hehehe

i knitted the rabbit following a free ravelry pattern, but i lost the link cos it must have been a good 2-3 years ago since :( her rabbit water bottle is one of my super duper fave re-ment items. i hope i haven't lost the cap :(
Eva kept trying to get into the shots XD
ok this pic i took with my own camera the night before. LOOK AT THAT!! soooo adorable!!! i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Stitch & Scrump (his little blue ragdoll) so when i saw this...i was ecstatic!

i took plenty more pics while i was at my very first dollmeet!!! pics are up on my flickr ;) (most of them are on flickr, don't know how many read the blog and i'm not sure about the protocol on using pics of others' dolls?) i was saying after many of them tried to persuade me to get one "WHEN you get one....." etc etc cos i was oooh-ing and aaaah-ing over the beautiful BJDs.....but yea. i still think of dolls as props to my minis, be it purchased (re-ment etc) or made by me....*scratches ear* sure, i love dolls, but somehow, the dolls seem more to me like props than the reverse haha. especially miniature containers/tupperware. ODD HUH?

it has been a really really REALLY fun start to 2010 ^ ^ i'm already exhausted! sheesh i'm weak.

going to a pyjama party tomorrow ;) can't wait! why do i get the feeling i'm trying to squeeze as much 'non-clay' fun in before my clay arrives? i think cos once the clay gets here, i'll probably lose all sense of time XD i hope by then my new friends don't think i'm avoiding them, i'm not, just very very obsessive is all :P
