Miniature Designer Chairs in 1:12

This is a long overdue post! My cousin went to an exhibition last year, and bought these for me as a birthday gift, but I was kept busy all the way till now :P Thank you again D!

I'm super sure that those who collect modern miniatures are familiar with these. Although I am not knowledgeable AT ALL about furniture design, this collection has been on the top of my mini-wishlist for ages, because it is very well made and to scale too!

This is how it's packaged.

The big red sofa was a gift from Sans! a few years back, and although not part of the set, it's manufactured by the same company, reacjapan (they have an online store: http://www.designstore-tokyo.com/category-267/mini-chair/)

These have got to be my fave, I think they're by Eames....I actually already have one of the office chairs but it broke after I accidentally crushed it while storing some of my minis T-T So glad I have a spare now HWA HWA HWA

These adorable elephant stools are D's fave! I think they're SQUEEEE!!!!! :P

and more Eames' chairs behind (ey, are they all Eames?! LOL I think they are! HA! *embarrassed*)

so beautiful......the white one reminds me of Zero from Nightmare before Christmas XD

I hope to eventually own all of the mini designer chairs, but for now, I'm super duper happy to have these. If they were huggable I'd hug 'em and pat 'em and squeeze 'em HAW HAW HAW (anyone watch Animaniacs??)

If you were wondering what these have to do with my current 80s project...NOTHING! But I'm sorting out my folders and thought it was about time these came to light :P

Tempted to get a set too? or do you already have multiple sets? :E

1:12 Macaron Sets, a belated birthday gift, and larger scaled donuts

It has been some time since I made these, but have never gotten round to using them. I remember first coming across some beautiful macaron boxes, in a similar design while looking for some inspiration in making petit fours. The idea stuck in my mind, and whilst waiting for a friend's wedding dinner to start, i grabbed a pencil and paper, drew out the template in a random size, tore it out, test assembled it and stuck it in my purse.

fast forward too many months later, i pulled it out from my drawer of half-baked ideas and drew out a template using Inkscape. modified it a little from the original, toyed around with a few colours, and decided that these are the ones i most like. i think i'll start using green in my next batch, and i'll explain a little more later my new appreciation for green....:P

Photospam ahead :P Each set has a different mix of macarons!

1:12 scale dollhouse miniature macaron sets - polymer clay

aaaand, I've also made available printables of these in 1:12, 1:6, 1:4 and 1:3 sizes! so now your macarons can sit in a cute little box, designed by me for your personal use :)
All available in my Etsy Store - http://www.etsy.com/shop/snowfern

The bf is such a sweetie :) he surprised me with this dollhouse kit as part of my birthday surprise (back in Dec, i'm super pampered i know :P ).....and frankly i'm quite a terrible person to buy gifts for. Not only am i picky, there's hardly any space left in my room for personal effects now that i've shifted all my work stuff back into my bedroom :S I usually prefer a good meal with good company as i find such moments invaluable, and far more precious than an object i might not even appreciate :X

So when i received this, i was a little apprehensive. i'd never worked on a wooden dollhouse kit, other than the flimsy balsa wood kits i played with as a child. so opening this up and seeing the laser cut pieces, then measuring them and realizing they were 1:48.......AHHHH SO HAPPY!!!! mostly because it coincides with a purchase i've made recently....shhhhh it's a secret ;P

i looked through my stash of scrapbooking papers and decided on a colour scheme....this isn't exactly the sort of colour i would use for my own dollhouse, but the completed piece isn't destined for me ;) (that's a hint!)

i found the laser etched detailing a little too blah, so i added some basswood strips to give the window sills a little more dimension.

aaaand, cos i have a few gachapon Sylvanian family sets, as well as some cheapo 1:48 furniture sets in my collection of toys........TADAH!~ SO CUTE. the knitted bear on the bed (or maybe crocheted?) is a gift from my friend Sue, and the knitted bunny and bear at the piano were made by me using a free pattern i found on Ravelry (i think i've blogged about it before but i'm in a rush.......AHHHH LATE FOR DATE)

From the front! Will probably add some flowers and more details to the lawn, but this was a complete surprise, and progress this far took me 3 whole days :O i have stuff to get back to so......it'll do for now :)

WIP Donuts in 1:3 and 1:4/1:6 sizes :) Air dry clay
Decided to take more WIP pics, which means using my handphone/Instagram.

I'm on instagram so...you can follow my progress there too! ^ ^

On a personal note, my health is improving slightly, and so am starting on commission work again ^ ^ Right now, my commission slots are full for Feb and Mar, but if you have any small requests (literally and figuratively XD ) do drop me a mail at snowfern at gmail dot com and I'll see if I can work on them alongside my current schedule :)

Miniature Merlions!

polymer clay miniature chocolate Merlions 4mm x 6mm

Long time no see! Singapore's National Day is on the 9th of August, and I'm not sure if I'll have the time nor inclination to blog then, so here's my little contribution :) I had thought of making a range of local foods as a personal challenge, but I also wanted to do something iconic of Singapore.

For those who are unfamiliar with this strange mythical creature that was the inspiration for these miniature chocolates, this is the Merlion :)

Happy Birthday Singapore!!

=====================

Speaking of Birthdays, August is a birthday month in my family, Dad's was on the 2nd, and my youngest bro's on the upcoming 8th...i didn't make anything in mini for them, we usually have a simple dinner and cake celebration at home :) There is one other friend who just celebrated hers recently, and I made this for her....

Polymer Clay Miniature Nasi Biryani 1:12 scale
I hope it is recognizable as Nasi Biryani?!?? there's like, many different versions of it, so I hodgepodged my version of a beef variety with cucumber salad and yoghurt, and 2 pieces of papadums....i hope it fits in her Maharajah's palace? :P

(you've probably guessed which friend I'm referring to then! HWA HWA HWA!)

((i didn't include the chrysnbon fork cos traditionally they're eaten with hands, and the fork was for me to check if the food was indeed to scale...hee))

Polymer Clay Miniature Pesto Spaghetti 1:12 scale

and then...cos another friend was here in Singapore for a visit, I made this for her....she last visited 2 years ago and back then, had made us a wonderful pesto spaghetti for dinner...it was the first time i'd tried pesto and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! i was really surprised by it as i'm not a fan at all of fragrant herbs and spices (think cilantro etc), but i really could not get enough! i hope it is identifiable for what it's supposed to be. topped with shaved/grated parmesan cheese too :D :D :D again, the fork was just for me to check if i had the scale right, i think i did???

we shared a precious few hours together, the 3 of us, and i cherish those very much. more than i can ever express. helped me sort out and put my petty troubles into perspective too. thank you for letting me be a part of something very special, you two :)

=====================

Miniature Mixing Bowl and Spatula 1:12 scale (Epoxy Resin)

and then, while i was 'away' being busy with 'real life', i took some time out to make some food related items that i've always wanted for my mini kitchen, but could not find nicely scaled ones. one of the purple sets is reserved for another purple crazed friend of mine, while the blue set (bottom right) should have arrived safe and sound with its new owner :D i hope they like it!

These are not for individual sale, sorry. They will be used in larger projects that I have in mind though. :)

Polymer Clay Miniature Cupcake Baking Try and Bowl 1:12 scale

Like these....which are a sneak peek at what I will be offering soon-ish....:P :X

There have been so many things happening in my life, a few illnesses, a few deaths, and a lot of adjustments. it takes a long time for me to slip into new routines, and while I have been working on many miniature projects, none of them are completed. I am learning new things through self-experimentation (and heaps of wastage!! ARGH).

One of the few positive things I've learnt is that, I finally feel comfortable saying that I can sculpt in miniature, and not just 'craft', re: Merlion. Prior to this, much of what I had been making didn't seem very 'sculptural' to me. don't know how to explain it. I am still figuring out my mixed feelings about this and alot of other stuff in life, but don't worry, I always look forward to see if there have been improvements.

AND I SHALL BE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE MWAH HAHAHAHA

but for now, there's this matter of curiosity landing on Mars that I have to check up on!!!!!!! NAIL BITING STUFF THIS

Feature: Pepper of MitchyMooMiniatures

These are the works of the fantastic and totally awesome Pepper of MitchyMooMiniatures! i had followed her flickr stream like, aeons ago, and was so excited to find that she had started a blog last year (if i recall correctly? lemme check)

yep last year! imagine my surprise when i found out she also blogs extensively about her processes, and offers tutorials as well. i love DIY stuff, so i knew i'd fallen in love with her (:P) twice over. i started leaving my *ahem* sycophantic comments (augh, i can't help it, you know how when you get all fangirly over someone and just fawn over their works and no matter what you say you just wind up coming across as a brown-noser?! ok maybe you don't but i certainly couldn't help myself *insert painful laughter here*)

ok awkward moment over. i wanted to buy some of her work, but to my disappointment she was not selling her works!! :O after a span of months of me heavily hinting and suggesting a swap, she finally relented and LOOK WHAT I GOT OMG

this was the first piece i unwrapped. i let out a loud gasp and started gurgling random words while handing it over with shaky hands to my dad. his first words to me were, "you must work harder Ling" after i showed him what i had made for her. *more painful laughter* yes, i'm working on that!

she even thoughtfully provided 2 books for it :D
it even opens! the swivel is so smooth, and even closes with a snug 'shnick'. ohh~~ and that lamp?!?! i can't seem to take a good photo of it, i will try again in daylight and not finagle with my stupid lights.... it has like little translucent flowers all over it, at different angles it looks like butterflies.... the lamp is both masculine and feminine at the same time (to me!) i <3 it so!
AND IT LIGHTS. *swoons*

k uhm. where was i.

so this was the piece that i originally thought i was swapping for, i got so excited over her agreeing to the swap that i totally forgot about all the other items after she posted up photos of this on her blog. so yes, i was really shocked to see the large package and multiple pieces. o.O and oh man, it's so hard to photograph this! every single moving part fits snugly and smoothly, orz orz orz i bow to her |337 skillz~! i cannot WAIT to start filling this up. *serious look*

see!??!? ahhhhh~~~ i don't even have a place to display these pieces *goes into panic mode again*

this coffee table really surprised me. the moment i unwrapped this, i knew what sort of sofa i wanted to make to go with it, even got the fabric for it, that's how inspirational her work is to me.
ALL WORKING PARTS AHHHHH

and another working light!!! Pepper even thoughtfully included the batteries required for these.....:) i have plans to use it as a showcase lamp in yet another one of my unfinished projects -_-" hee hee!

and though we had agreed on items we wanted for the swap, she added this at the last minute after i stupidly blurted out how much i coveted it when she showed this on her blog (i really should not surf my favourite blogs late at night/early morning, my brain-mouth-hand filter just doesn't exist then) and *sighs in exasperation?!?* i do love it soooo much but i feel so bad and embarrassed for even using the word 'covet' yea i don't even know what to say right now i'm feeling so mixed cos i'm glad i got it, but ashamed for how i got it :( THANK YOU PEPPER!!!!!

see. SEE!??!? see why i <3 it so much!??!? i really wish i had a proper setup or scene for all these beautiful items. i know i'll be using them over and over again though :P they're within easy reach all the time heh heh :P

ok aside from the schoolgirlish nature of the post so far, i must say these pieces are quite something to behold. they have a certain weight to them, and the smell of the woods (or varnish??) gets me all excited about using (i cannot say play!!! :P ) them, i keep imagining scenes i could place them in, daydreaming on the bus to and from work :P

please pay her blog a visit if you haven't already, this is just the tip of the iceberg, and my photos do not do her work justice.
