1:6 scale miniature playscale 80s Singapore tidbits

=============================================
The DSLR won this round. I am still struggling with the settings, and the macro clip-ons. I suppose the photos look good from far, but are far from good T-T They'll have to do for now because I am a little busy!

The request was for 1:6 items, a rare request! They are double the size of the ones I made for a personal 80s Singapore project. Quite a number of people have asked where I had obtained the images, all the graphics were made by me using inkscape, referencing photos I had found online.

Yotsuba is 12cm tall, which makes her about 1:10 scale, so these are a tad large for her! They would be suitable for playscale dolls like Barbie. Pullip, Blythe etc, but I think my customer ordered them for possibly YoSD sized dolls? I really ought to put them with some Re-ment but eh, already packed them away hehehhe oops

1:6 scale miniature White Rabbit Milk sweets and Haw Flakes, polymer clay, paper, Inkscape, sealant, glue

1:6 scale miniature Mamee Noodle Snack, air dry clay, decal, plastic, paper, Inkscape, sealant, glue, acrylic paint

Some of these might not be familiar to those who aren't living in Southeast Asia, but I have had people reporting in from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and even the USA who say they're still available in Chinatown areas! Wooo!

1:6 scale miniature seaweed rings, Spin potato snacks, air dry clay, acrylic paint, sealant, plastic

These were the most time consuming to make, and there are 50 pcs in each package. The Spin crackers used to taste and look slightly different from these when I was younger, and had a flavour other than MSG :X I miss eating them! They also came in a cone, not packaged like this. As for how do I do my plastic packaging, let's just say, I still fail alot and so am not confident in revealing my methods :( But you can try and be creative with an iron, just be careful! :X

GROUP SHOT! I hope she likes them :) I certainly enjoyed making them, quite a challenge!

I have also opened up a pre-order for the 1:3 Ramen and Udon bowls that were pretty popular, you can find more details here:

however there are only 2 bowls left, they were snapped up faster than expected, thank you all :)

Bold

ahh!! back to bold colours ^ ^ i love the vibrancy! although the pics are a tad overexposed, couldn't be bothered to adjust the cam settings cos..IT'S SATURDAY!!! WOOOOOOOOOO

you can click on the pic for a larger image, but if you do, please excuse the dried clay under my nail. :X

the lips were something i'd been thinking of working on for the longest, shortly before i received the adorable lips sofa from Sans for x'mas :P i don't recall where i first saw those candy lips (or wax lips?), it is not a commonly found candy here in SG, so....:-/ anyhoo, wonder what they taste like, gummy bears maybe? or strawberry shoelaces type thingies? i'm not big on candies, grew out of that in my teenage years. it would be interesting to try though.

the larger one is in (i think) 1:3, the smaller, 1:12 of course. these were made out of sukerukun, which is a pretty cool and translucent (almost transparent) air dry clay. it's quite tricky to colour and work with, and shrinkage is pretty unpredictable depending on your colouring agent. i will re-make these in polymer clay, these will probably be packaged up instead :)

i've also coincidentally made more red cakes .....they definitely weren't planned, i just wanted to make some marie antoinette inspired pastries, and somehow, the colour palette called for these bold reds? wahey! oh the 1:3 raspberries in back are also out of sukerukun. gonna make some 1:3 ispahans and such...in time...in time...XD

a less jarring pic. woah it's hard to take pics of red stuff too :S
DIRTY YOTSUBA NEEDS A BATH.

have a number of WIP items lying about my room, on various surfaces and the floor even -_-" have had to work in ADC for a number of reasons:

1) hands hurt from all this work
2) preparing for the ADC workshop means i've kept away my PC for the moment
3) lighter ADC might be a better option for snack foods so that the dolls can pose with them more easily? ionos. probably have to set up a poll on that :-/
4) faster to work with ADC for larger items as i don't have to condition PC, which takes ages at this amount (at least for me it does, even with a cranky pasta machine)

can't wait to colour and glaze the donuts :) i really enjoy making them!

1:12 gummy bears

haha they are so small i hadn't noticed it was upside down :( it's hard to take clear pics of them as they're translucent and barely 2.5mm tall. i tried making them smaller, but i'm already insane enough, i'll try again for the next batch, no promises! they're tough to make...i used epoxy resin, minute minute amounts....forgot to take pics of the mold....actually made them a while ago, and they took ages cos i had to work in batches for the resin to set (takes about a day for each batch)

finally figured out how to use brushes in GIMP!!!! just download the latest version (it's free) and put the free brushes in the appropriate folder, and TADAH!!!! omg so simple, free, and totally legal (provided you read the TOU for the free brushes XD ) going crazy making packing designs lately....

aaaand the contents of package spilling out, my fave thing to do when packaging minis....

aaaaand YOTSUBA!!!!! she gets some too!!!! i might make some available on etsy....depending on how attached i feel to them.

here's a sneak preview to what i'm making....you can probably guess if you celebrate it ;)

DING!! i'll post more after my friend gets her package (which i am trying to get sent out by today :X )

so much mail today

Thank you sooo much Talina! i love them all!!! i will fix up the kits soon, i'm sooo itching to get to them, but have to prioritize!! i am so pleased! (can't think of a better word, my mind is so hazy from all the pain so i am not gushing as much as usual)  i LOVE THEM! aiee~~ Yotsuba's expression of glee sums up my joy at receiving these wonderful little gifts ^ ^

(i admit, the little 'tin' cans totally TOTALLY SLAY ME they are PERFECT)

((and i must add, the little yellow pencils in that jar? the eraser tips OMG THEY EVEN FEEL LIKE THE REAL THING. must. resist. urge. to. chew. XD ))

i also received this medium flat rate box today. for those who don't know (i didn't till i received it) it measures 14" x 12" x 3.5". that is a rather big box :O surprised because i was told my order from polymerclayexpress would come in 2 flat rate packages like my previous order did.

all the clay :O i ordered these before i screwed up my hand recently, and during my down-time (emotionally and work-wise) i was fretting over whether i'd still be able to use the incoming clay. well the hand is doing heaps better with the help of ibuprofen, so i hope i will!!

the cake is finally done! my customer wanted some plates too, and from past experience, plates are really quite difficult to get all nice and symmetrical. so as a test run on size, i cut up a disposable sauce dish to act as a plate. size-wise, i think it works. the fork is a jewellery charm, i snipped off the eyehook, and sanded off the rough edge.

managed to work with a bit more clay today. this is for a different 1-3 commission......need to tweak the colour on the kitsune (sweet tofu skin) a little more...but soon i will be able to pour in the 'soup'. have to also paint the chopsticks. might sand it down a little more if my hands can handle it tomorrow.

made the master for the 1-3 onigiri and made a mold for these. i think i must have rolled out at LEAST a thousand grains of rice *faints* took me all of yesterday just to make the original. yikes! just have to stick on the seaweed, and they'll be done. i like the shapes of these though, i love eating onigiri with crab mayo filling, YUM!

gonna rest a bit more. dad's little birthday cum retirement dinner yesterday is wreaking havoc on my digestive system. serves me right for being a greedy little -----  :9

2-in-1 post (or maybe 3-in-1)

Part I, in 1:48 scale

pardon the dirty clay, these are practice ones from scrap clay.

1:48 tea set. didn't take measurements but you can probably tell how tiny it is. crazy small. i think the cups aren't even 3mm wide.

Part II, in 1:12 scale

these kept me busy most of yesterday...........

have not given these a satin finish. figured would be easier to do that once the pastries have been glued onto the earring backings and clips. will let cousin have first pick, and some of these will make it onto etsy. i hope. haven't updated my store in...ages. sheesh. slack much? :P

ran out of earring backings hehehehe

decided to switch back to polymer clay. i think i'm definitely more comfortable working with polymer clay. i do like the textures that ADC gives for breads and pastries, but i am unfamiliar with its properties, and it bothers me that i do not know how to seal them appropriately. i struggle with painting, and that's another issue i'd rather not deal with anymore. these breads were made using molds, i made a master and then made molded them using alley goop. i really love that stuff. :P a bit of detail is lost, but i simply have to detail it a little more, the mold is just to get a consistency with the shapes and sizes. the details such as oats and sesame seeds are added later. i thought of placing them in the molds before i push in the clay, but it just seemed too cumbersome. maybe i'll try it out when i'm feeling more adventurous XD

Part III, in 1:6 scale

Yotsuba got some mail last week! :O Sans of http://sansdollhousediaries.blogspot.com/ sent me a surprise gift :O

it is not a drum...

it is not a beret, nor a stool....

hrm...wonder if i can fit in there. well, not this way for sure....

slowly does it....

oh it's pretty roomy in here!

seeya later!

kids, do not try this at home!

ok enough of that silliness :X thank you Sans! your surprise gift put a silly grin on my face the whole night! i know, i'm too easily amused. as you can tell, Yotsuba enjoys her new gift very much ^ ^ she sends her thanks, and her love! i don't know how i'm going to find space to make a new setting, i don't know how to incorporate it into any of my scenes either, i sincerely hope you don't mind finding it used in goofy ways :X

more, and better (i hope!) swan cream puffs

swans in love

side view

top view

back view

air dry clay swan cream puffs in 1:3 scale, a customer request. i made these slightly more 'cooked' looking this time, as i felt the first experimental ones were too anaemic looking XD haven't yet informed my customer, i hope she likes these.......

yotsuba would enjoy these
so of course i had to make more in 1:12. they are also darker than the last attempt, i much prefer this colour. the cream i applied differently, they're not quite uniform but i have found that i much prefer it this way. it's more interesting to look at, more 'realistic' since i highly doubt in real life, swan cream puffs are made perfectly uniform, and much more fun to make. i don't have to fret over whether it's all 'perfect'. it's less stressful this way too! :P
what is she planning

project petit

whose luggage is this

and i've got mail!!!! woohoo! i bid for some items off evilbay, and these arrived today! the office lady re-ment sets! i didn't want the whole series, the only item i REALLY REALLY REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY wanted for the longest time...was that pink suitcase. so that little coffee tumbler was really appealing too. and that in-out organizer tray. and those curlers. but i digress. I FINALLY GOT IT YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i originally did not want to include Yotsuba in the setup....but i don't have a suitably sized doll nor furniture to play out the scene. it then became somewhat as if Yotsuba were playing dressup. and since i can't dress her up (technically i couldn't cos i couldn't undress her ROFL) she has to do 'pretend play'. can't do the whole "let's help momma pack" scene either since in the manga, she only has a dad. far as i've read anyway. shoot i wanna go finish reading it but curse this short attention span. where was i?

oh yes. so there she is, packing the essentials. her nightmare-before-christmas Zero purse, her eye (ok face) mask so she can sleep better (the nightlight irritates her yet she has to have it on) and her bunny to hug to sleep!

i wish i had more exciting and new items to show ya. the closest i've got are the curtains. you can view the pics i took just after i completed them on my flickr :)

off to find some lunch.
